Intro

A lot has changed this week! Fixes, updates and new stories have been added to the project. Next week is the final hand in and we are nearly ready for our upload. It has been a long and tedious process but we are super proud of everything so far!

Removed Single Note Page

It didn’t last long, but we removed the code sheet with all the answers on it. Instead, we finally created a system where a proper order needs to be set into the radio in order for it to work. Using a series of strings and if statements, we were able to create 3 separate ‘ciphers’ that all work individually. This has been a huge step forward towards our end goal and we are very happy with the result. It has taken a lot of trial and error, but now we can move onto the next goal.

Since we need to let the player know of the code inputs, I created three ‘cipher sheets’ that are hidden in each scene. Not only does this get the player to use all areas and really look around, but it keeps the memorise-mechanic we had originally planned in a way that is fun.

I kept the text to read in a similar way to the social media posts for consistency. Each code sheet is designed a little differently from each other, but are in a scrappy form to imply that they were quickly scribbled on.

Tool Tip Box

Because there will be a lot that is clickable in the game, I did not want anything to get missed out. I implemented a ‘tool tip box’ so that whenever something is clickable and is hovered over by the cursor, it will signal to the player that it can be opened. This makes it easier to understand where the code notes are as well as anything else of use to the player.

Map

The map mechanic had a lot of plans that we were unable to spare time for. We wanted there to be a way for the player to guide the fisherman on his journey away from the storm by using a map for directions. We were able to put in the image and a larger version of it so that it could be seen, but otherwise it currently serves no purpose other than for aesthetics.

This would have been ideal as it gives the player another action to perform other than the radio, and with more experience and time we could still bring this idea into fruition. For the time being, it makes for a nice visual and gives the player an idea of the world outside the lighthouse.
