Intro

Just for fun, I decided to try making a prototype trailer about our games’ themes using stock footage to experiment how we are going to convey its message. I have had an idea about how the documentary and trailer are going to work after we get the correct footage to fully encapsulate the work we put into Keepers Veil. I enjoy video editing in my spare time and felt it was worth trailing the process for the final video.

Footage

Using Pixabay and Epidemic sound, I collated plenty of free footage and sound to use in the video. This took the longest amount of time since I wanted a specific kind of footage, and finding correlating videos that use similar colours, camera size and location proved slightly difficult.

Although we are not going to be using this video for anything other than a test, I still wanted to practise using solely free-to-use media in terms of visual and audible content. However, I did find that the video would need a voice to ‘narrate’ the story, and what I felt worked best was clips of William Dafoe from ‘The Lighthouse’. I understand that this infringes on copyright law and therefore sustain that we will not be using the proceeding video to market our game.

Since the video would be overlaid with music, there was no need to find videos with specific sound. The aim was to find cinematic, short clips of nautical scenes such as lighthouses, the ocean and fishermen. Thankfully, there as an excess available online for me to use.

The music I used was called ‘Suspension’ by Anna Dager et al. I felt that this one best combined mystery, caution and sadness all in one beautiful piece, and works as a good background to the footage above.

I only used a minute of the music, but I felt that with enough footage I could work with the entire song.

These are the clips I used in the prototype. I used my phone to screen record specific scenes that can be portrayed as dialogue in our game. As ‘The Lighthouse’ is a great inspiration for our game, there was plenty to work with.

The Video

I used CapCut to put together all the downloaded videos and music, alongside the dialogue from the movie.
