Intro

Finally, we have reached the last day of Keeper’s Veil. Like for Day 2, I will be grouping the three parts of Day 3 and speaking about them more broadly to avoid spoilers. However, if you would like to see my narrative plan please either refer back to Finalising the Narrative or visit our Figma at https://shorturl.at/d.

Lost Agency

Throughout Day 3, there are increasing incidences of only a single response option rather than the usual two. In other words, the player is losing their agency. This loss of control reflects the Keeper’s loss as well. Not only is the Keeper losing his sanity, but he is also losing control of the situation.

These snippets of text are singular responses, that the player must pick, from the end of Day 3 - Part 2. Up until now, the player has almost always been presented with a nicer, diplomatic response and a meaner, aggressive response to choose between. This difference in responses allowed the player to choose how they wanted to play the Keeper and interact with the Fisherman. Now, however, they are forced to pick the cruel option, they have no choice but to be mean to the Fisherman. This represents the Keeper’s increasing frustration at his lack of control; so much so that he can only react aggressively, even if the player has been choosing to be friendly.

Imagery

The twist that we have been building towards throughout the entire game is finally revealed towards the end of Day 3. To build that last bit of tension (I like to think of it as the moment right before a big drop on a roller coaster) and make everything more impactful, I have included unsettling, gory imagery. Imagery is a literary device that uses descriptive language that appeals to the senses and creates mental images.
